Virginia now stands as President Trump’s No. 1 target to flip into the red column in 2020, even as the Democratic contenders avoid it like the plague due to a stunning series of scandals involving the state’s top three elected officials.

If Trump can grab Virginia’s 13 Electoral College votes next year, it could be enough to put him back in the White House. It’s no secret the Democratic strategy to beat him hinges on recapturing Michigan and Wisconsin -- two normally Democratic Rust Belt states with 26 Electoral College votes between them that Hillary Clinton managed to lose.
