Thursday, 04 January 2018 11:31 AM EST

Republican incumbent David Yancey won a lottery-style drawing aimed at resolving a tied Virginia House of Delegates race on Thursday, state elections board Chairman James Alcorn said.

Alcorn's drawing of Yancey's name could give Republicans a 51-49 advantage in the 100-seat House. Democrat Shelly Simonds has left open the option of seeking a second recount in the race.
