A Norwegian town near the Russian border gave its residents a scare this week when a civil defense siren blared in the middle of the night and sparked fears of a Russian invasion.
The Daily Mirror cited a Norwegian news report that claimed the siren went on for more than 15 minutes earlier this week in Vadso.
Vadso is located in the northern slice of Norway, and Russia is just across the Barents Sea to the southeast. Russia, in fact, is visible from Vadso on a clear day.
Russia's Murmansk Naval Base, which serves as the administrative headquarters of Russia's Northern Fleet, is not far from the Norwegian border.
Local reports claimed Vadso residents called police while the siren was ringing and asked if they were under attack by the Russians.
Vadso has around 6,000 residents.
Norway claimed last year that Russia hacked into its spy agency and other government departments.
