Officials on Wednesday evacuated an airport in Flint, Michigan, where a man reportedly shouted "Allahu akbar" before stabbing a police officer, sources and witnesses said, NBC News reports.
The attack wounded Bishop International Airport Lt. Jeff Neville, who was bleeding from the neck.
A suspect, who is said to be from Quebec and have a Canadian passport, was in custody.
The FBI is leading the investigation into the possible terrorist attack.
Michigan State Police initially tweeted that the officer was in critical condition. Just after 1 p.m., officials confirmed Neville was out of surgery and was upgraded to stable condition.
Bishop International Airport posted on Facebook that passengers were safe and were being told to check for flight delays or cancellations.
Ken Brown told The Flint Journal he was dropping off his daughter at the airport and saw the officer bleeding from his neck. He says he saw a man detained by police and a knife on the ground.
"The cop was on his hands and knees bleeding from his neck," Brown said. "I said they need to get him a towel."
Airport and police officials didn't immediately respond to messages from The Associated Press seeking comment.
Flint is about 50 miles northwest of Detroit.
