A manhunt is underway in Michigan, where police say a 19-year-old college student shot and killed his parents in his dorm room Friday morning.
There was a massive police response at Central Michigan University after reports of shots being fired. Two people were killed. A law enforcement source told the Detroit Free Press that the victims are the parents of James Eric Davis, Jr., who is now being sought in the crime.
University Police Lt. Larry Klaus told reporters that Davis was hospitalized Thursday night for either a drug overdose or a "bad reaction to drugs." He was released Friday morning, a short time before the shooting occurred.
Schools and several business in the area around the campus, located in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, were either closed or placed on lockdown as police looked for the alleged shooter.
Security cameras in the dorm building where the shooting occurred showed Davis leaving his room, exiting the building, and running north along some train tracks near the campus.
The campus was placed on lockdown after the shooting and that status continued into the afternoon as police searched for Davis. A security alert posted on the school's website confirmed two non-students were killed in a "domestic situation."
Sports and other activities on the campus scheduled to take place on Friday were postponed, including a men's basketball game between Western Michigan and Central Michigan.
The ongoing manhunt includes local, state, and federal members of law enforcement, including agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Central Michigan University is a four-year, public institution with more than 23,000 students enrolled, according to the college's website. Access to most of the buildings is limited, and individuals must have identification to enter, according to campus officials.
