Ukraine authorities accused Russia of attempting to undermine its new army chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, with a series of media portrayals about his past in Russia as a Soviet officer, Bloomberg reported.
Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council said the coverage of Syrskyi is meant to sow division within the military and discredit him by playing up his Soviet past and his relatives in Russia.
Ukrainian officials said people should not fall for Russian propaganda, as Moscow is threatened by the success of Syrskyi's operations, including the liberation of the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions, according to BBN.
The officials emphasized the importance of maintaining trust in the Ukrainian armed forces and backing the young commanders who have been promoted under the leadership of Syrskyi.
The officials also said it's crucial for Ukrainian society to remain vigilant and united in the face of external efforts to sow discord and mistrust, citing the need for critical thinking and discernment regarding news reports.
They also stated that in times of heightened geopolitical tension, the lines between propaganda and fact can be blurred, BBN reported.
