President Donald Trump claimed Friday morning that Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., tried to mislead the American people by changing the words of a call transcript with Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

The morning after Schiff, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, read portions of a whistleblower complaint and the aforementioned transcript during a hearing on the subject that featured Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire, Trump took some shots at the congressman.

"Rep. Adam Schiff fraudulently read to Congress, with millions of people watching, a version of my conversation with the President of Ukraine that doesn't exist. He was supposedly reading the exact transcribed version of the call, but he completely changed the words to make it…" Trump wrote in the first of two tweets.

"...sound horrible, and me sound guilty. HE WAS DESPERATE AND HE GOT CAUGHT. Adam Schiff therefore lied to Congress and attempted to defraud the American Public. He has been doing this for two years. I am calling for him to immediately resign from Congress based on this fraud!" Trump added.

It's unclear which portions of the transcript Trump was referring to. Rep. Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, is a member of the Intelligence committee and he also said Schiff tried to misrepresent the facts.

Schiff is one of several Democrats leading an impeachment case against Trump over allegations that he used his office to force Ukraine to investigate his political rival Joe Biden.
