President Donald Trump on Tuesday denied a “rumor” that Missouri Republican candidate Josh Hawley left a rally with Trump early on Monday night, in his first tweet on Election Day.
“There is a rumor, put out by the Democrats, that Josh Hawley of Missouri left the arena last night early,” Trump wrote. “It is Fake News. He met me at the plane when I arrived, spoke at the great rally, & stayed to the very end. In fact, I said goodbye to him and left before he did. Deception!"
Although Trump did not identify where he heard this “rumor,” the Washington Examiner and Politico both note that Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” host Brian Kilmeade said at the top of the show early Tuesday morning, “why Josh Hawley didn't stay last night for the Missouri rally is beyond me. What could he have been doing that was so important?”
Trump was joined in Cape Girardeau by the singer Lee Greenwood and Fox News stars Jeanine Pirro and Sean Hannity, who described the “people in the back,” where reporters including those from Fox News were located, as “fake news.”
