House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's threat to use committee subpoena powers if Democrats retake Congress is illegal, and could eventually lead to a Supreme Court battle, according to President Donald Trump.
“Pelosi says she’s going to mechanize the speakership and use it as a great negotiation with the president," Trump told The Washington Times on Thursday. "That’s an illegal statement...that alone takes two years to get it to the Supreme Court, that statement, before you do anything."
Pelosi, D-Calif., said during a CNN campaign forum last week that "subpoena power is interesting, to use it or not to use it. It’s a great arrow to have in your quiver in terms of negotiating on other subjects.”
Trump also said he is not worried that he'll be impeached if Democrats retake the House, as he can "play that game also."
The president also confirmed several items in the news, including the possible appointment of State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert to replace U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and that he'd authorize troops "in a heartbeat" to use force on the southern border against illegal immigrants.
Trump also said he does not expect to announce a trade deal with China at this months' G-20 summit, and that he could "totally shut off Iran" with oil sanctions, but he's not looking to destroy the country or "double the price of oil."
He also dismissed the importance of Oprah Winfrey's support of Stacey Abrams in the Georgia gubernatorial race, but touted his own endorsements as having "meant a lot" in GOP races across the country.
