President Donald Trump sent out a tweet on Monday quoting The New York Times about how his judicial appointments are proceeding at a faster pace than former President Barack Obama.
Trump wrote, quoting the Times, that “This week, the Senate passed a milestone in confirming the 150th Federal Judge of Mr. Trump’s Administration to a lifetime appointment, far outstripping Barack Obama’s pace and fulfilling pledges by Mr. Trump and Mr. O’Connell to remake the Federal Judiciary.”
The president wrote in a second tweet, again quoting the Times, that “'These Conservative Judicial appointments will impact our nation for years to come,’ said Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, who leads the Judiciary Committee and who has been speeding through Trump nominees. The entire Court System is changing at a record pace!”
Ironically, about one hour after using the Times as a source of praise for his administration, Trump already was back to bashing the newspaper over a correction it added to a report accusing Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.
Regarding the judicial appointments, Newsweek pointed out that the faster pace of confirmations is due in part to an agreement reached by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to quicken confirmations at the end of last year.
The deal allowed Democrats from red states to spend more time campaigning in their home states ahead of the last year’s midterm elections instead of attending confirmation hearings in Washington and also included the confirmations of two of Obama's nominees.
