President Donald Trump Tuesday ripped into MSNBC's "Morning Joe" after show co-host Mika Brzezinski berated Rep. Mark Meadows for not backing up Rep. Elijah Cummings in the wake of the president's attacks on him, along with the show presenting several other critical news items.
"Wow! Morning Joe & Psycho ratings have really crashed," Trump tweeted, tagging Fox News' "Fox and Friends, the closest rival to the MSNBC program, in his tweet. "Very small audience. People are tired of hearing Fake News delivered with an anger that is not to be believed. Sad, when the show was sane, they helped get me elected. Thanks! Was on all the time. Lost all of its juice!"
Brzezinski, moments after the tweet posted, gave Trump a scathing on-air response, telling him that she's not angry, but rather "sad and disgusted when pathetic politicians don't stand up to your racism."
"They are too afraid to," she said. "That is sad and that is unbelievably pathetic to watch and it is really bad for our country."
She added that Meadows, R-N.C., is "too busy sucking up to you" to be a friend to Cummmings, who had stood up for him when he "cried like a baby when he was called a racist."
"That is sad and that is pathetic," Brzezinski said. "So that is what you're [about], Donald, as you are tweeting away with your little thumbs. So again, unlike Mark Meadows, just for the record, we're not afraid of you."
During the 2016 election, "Morning Joe" came under fire from several critics for having Trump on as a frequent guest. However, the show eventually switched from having a friendly relationship with the president to one that has become critical, often drawing Trump's ire.
Meanwhile, Cummings is close to Brzezinski and her husband, show co-host Joe Scarborough, officiating their wedding at Washington's National Archives last fall. Scarborough was not on the program Tuesday.
Trump returned to Twitter with another salvo aganst the "Morning Joe" pair:
"Don’t watch show, but heard Mika said I asked to preside over their marriage. Not true—does anyone really believe that? They were married by Elijah, King of Baltimore!"
