President Donald Trump said Saturday that he will release all of the Kennedy assassination files — except for identifying information on sources still living — in order to "put any and all conspiracy theories to rest."

Trump took to Twitter:

Trump backed the release of as many as 2,800 records on John F. Kennedy's 1963 assassination Thursday night, withholding others after national security appeals by the CIA and FBI.

The National Archives released the other documents.

"I have no choice," Trump said in a memo Thursday, citing "potentially irreversible harm" to national security if he had allowed all records out then.

He had placed the withheld files under a six-month review. The 2,800 others were issued to beat a deadline to honor a 1992 law mandating their release.

Trump later tweeted that, except for the data on surviving sources, all the JFK files were being release "long ahead of schedule":

Overall, the collection includes more than 3,100 records — comprising hundreds of thousands of pages — that have never been seen by the public.

About 30,000 documents were released previously, with redactions.

Kennedy was killed during a Dallas motorcade on Nov. 22, 1963, by Lee Harvey Oswald, who was shot to death two days later at police headquarters on live national television by local nightclub owner Jack Ruby.
