Trump: Obamacare Deductible 'Hurts Families Badly'

President Donald Trump Monday spoke out on Twitter against the high deductibles included on many Obamacare plans, saying that in most cases it's not "even useable."

"The DEDUCTIBLE which comes with ObamaCare is so high that it is practically not even useable!," Trump tweeted. "Hurts families badly. We have a chance, working with the Democrats, to deliver great HealthCare! A confirming Supreme Court Decision will lead to GREAT HealthCare results for Americans!"

His comments came after a federal judge in Texas struck down the Affordable Care Act on Friday, and after Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill appeared on Fox News' "Fox and Friends" to say the Texas ruling marks an opportunity for Congress to act.

Hill was included in a coalition of 20 GOP state attorneys general who argued that when Congress reduced the law's individual mandate by reducing it to $0 while passing the 2017 tax cut bill, it had removed the legality of the mandate that all Americans either become insured or pay a tax penalty.

The case will be appealed, said Hill, and it will take many years to get to the Supreme Court, so "nothing is happening" with regard to the high deductibles involved in many Obamacare plans.

"In the interim, it provides Congress with a real opportunity recognizing that Obamacare is on life support to pull together and make a determination of the things that we need to do to provide sufficient healthcare for all Americans including pre-existing conditions," he said, after show host Steve Doocy complained his own daughter has deductibles on her own Obamacare plan that are too difficult to meet.

Once the mandate tax was removed, "there's no longer a constitutional basis for Obamacare. It's quite simple. It's one of the most simple aspects that I have seen in our legal status," said Hill.
