President-elect Donald Trump has sought to do business in Russia for 30 years, with most of his attempts falling short, according to a New York Times report.
The Times claims Trump has tried to open hotels, apartment buildings, and even a reality TV show in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and other locations in Russia during the post-Soviet era.
He did succeed in selling Trump Super Premium Vodka, which featured bottles emblazoned with 24-karat gold, but that was the extent of the successful deals Trump had in Russia, reports the Times.
The Times notes that Trump was in Moscow as recently as 2013 and said on Twitter, "TRUMP TOWER-MOSCOW is next."
Two of Trump's adult children — Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. — have also traveled to Russia several times seeking deals in the country.
Trump boasted to his biographer Michael D’Antonio in 2014, "I know the Russians better than anybody."
Amid questions about having potential ties to Russia, Trump has denied having any dealings with Russia and has claimed he "stayed away" from trying to do so.
A Trump dossier that was put together and made public last week contains several claims about Trump, including that he has relationships with Russian officials and that Russians have enough dirt on him to commit blackmail on the president-elect.
The claims in the dossier have not been verified. Trump said they are all false.
