Tropical Depression 10 has formed in the Atlantic, possibly becoming a hurricane Friday as it nears the Caribbean, the National Hurricane Center said Tuesday.
The system is about 1,165 miles east-southeast of the Leeward Islands, WESH-TV in Orlando reported, and is moving west-northwest at 12 mph.
The National Hurricane Center said the system could become Tropical Storm Imelda later Tuesday.
According to the NHC, the system is expected to approach the northern Leeward Islands by late Thursday or Friday.
The storm will have developed into a hurricane by then, according to forecasters.
Meanwhile, the NHC said Tuesday that Hurricane Humberto is expected to pack tropical-force winds when it reaches Bermuda by Wednesday afternoon.
It could become a hurricane by Thursday morning.
The Bermuda Weather Service has issued a tropical storm watch for the island, WESH reports.
Humberto is expected to produce "large swells" along the coast of Bermuda by Wednesday, producing "dangerous breaking waves" along some beaches and coastal flooding Wednesday night and Thursday.
In addition, the hurricane could affect the northwestern Bahamas and could hit the southeastern U.S. coast — from Florida to North Carolina — over the next "couple of days, creating life-threatening surf and rip current conditions," the NHC said.
