Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., will work as a white collar criminal defense attorney after leaving Congress in January, The Post and Courier is reporting.
According to the newspaper, Gowdy will rejoin South Carolina’s largest law firm, Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, where he worked in the early 1990s.
Gowdy, who was asked on Thursday about the move, said he could neither confirm nor deny it.
He said he will not announce his plans until after he leaves Congress to avoid filing additional disclosures.
The firm is based in Columbia, South Carolina, and has more than 750 attorneys and government relations professionals in offices around the country.
Earlier this year, in announcing his retirement from Congress, Gowdy said: "Whatever skills I may have are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress, and I enjoy our justice system more than our political system."
