A report by a tourism research and analysis group suggests that President Donald Trump's rhetoric and travel ban are leading to a downturn in tourists coming to the U.S., according to the International Business Times.

Tourism Economics projects that the U.S. could see 4.3 million fewer international tourists this year, with that number expected to grow to 6.3 million in 2018. Loss of revenue could add up to $7.4 billion this year and as much as $10 billion in 2018, the projection said.

Thirty-eight percent of the decline in booking comes from tourists in the Middle East, amid the Trump administration's attempts to install a travel ban on predominantly Muslim countries, as well as his rhetoric about building a wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

Travel bookings from western Europe to the U.S. were down 14 percent, according to the report, while bookings from Russia to the U.S. increased by 66 percent.

Groups that support tourism told the International Business Times that they are at work combating the issue.

Discover Los Angeles said an international campaign to welcome tourists is under way now.

The city invites tourists "from all corners of the globe," a Discover Los Angeles spokesperson told International Business Times.

New York's marketing office, NYC & Co said it is planning $3 million in advertising to call the city a "welcoming place for everybody."

The office is working to draw Canadians to visit, The Toronto Sun reports.

"We recognize there are challenges at the border at the moment," Fred Dixon, a spokesman for NYC & Co, said.

"We want to remind everyone that New York City is welcoming and that we are a diverse and safe city, a sanctuary city like Toronto, and we value the same things," Dixon added.
