Two women are accusing legendary NBC newsman Tom Brokaw of workplace sexual harassment two decades ago when he was the anchor of the network's "Nightly News" program.
Former NBC correspondent Linda Fester told Variety in a video interview posted Thursday that Brokaw made unwanted sexual advances twice in the 1990s — and she did not report the alleged incident because she feared retribution.
Vester alleged Brokaw physically tried to force her to kiss him on two separate occasions, groped her in a NBC conference room and showed up at her hotel room uninvited, Variety reported.
In a statement to Variety supplied by a NBC News spokesman, Brokaw said of the allegations: "I met with Linda Vester on two occasions, both at her request, 23 years ago because she wanted advice with respect to her career at NBC. The meetings were brief, cordial and appropriate, and despite Linda's allegations, I made no romantic overtures towards her at that time or any other."
Another woman, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told The Washington Post that Brokaw acted inappropriately toward her, also in the 1990s, when she was a young production assistant and he was an anchor.
He said no such incident happened, the Post reported.
Brokaw exited as "Nightly News" anchor in 2004 but has remained as a contributor to NBC News, most recently covering the funeral of former first lady Barbara Bush.
The allegations against the veteran newsman comes nearly five months after NBC fired "Today" anchor Matt Lauer following an in-house probe into multiple sexual-harassment allegations made against him.
