Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, was the only Democrat to not place his hand over his heart during the national anthem ahead of Tuesday's Democratic presidential debate.

Marianne Williamson, also a long-shot 2020 candidate, at first did not have her hand on her heart but eventually placed it there halfway through the Star-Spangled Banner.

"The View" panelist Meghan McCain called the lawmaker out on Twitter.

"Put your hand over your heart for the star spangled banner Tim Ryan!" she tweeted.

"Rep. Tim Ryan didn't put his hand over his heart during the national anthem," wrote former George W. Bush press secretary and Fox News contributor Ari Fleischer. "I guess he's appealing to the Kaepernick wing of the Democratic Party."

According to the U.S. flag code, "all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart," when the anthem is played.

Former President Barack Obama was criticized for the same thing when, as a senator in 2007 at an Iowa event, he folded his hands in front of his waist as then-New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, then-New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, and Ruth Harkin held their hands over their heart.

Ryan at the debate stood alongside South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., Williamson, former Maryland Rep. John Delaney, former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, and Montana Gov. Steve Bullock.
