A GoFundMe created following the massacre at a Pittsburgh synagogue in which 11 people were killed Saturday has already raised more than $420,000.

The plea for funds to help the victims and their families calls for people to "Respond to this hateful act with your act of love today."

Over 7,300 people have donated so far.

Shay Khatiri, the man who started the fund, played down his efforts, telling The Hill that "This took me two minutes of my life and the $36 I chipped in myself. As much credit and more goes to those who have donated and are helping one way or the other."

Khatiri, who does not live in Pittsburgh, stressed that the fund is a GoFundMe certified charity campaign and that he will not be accessing any of the donations, which go directly to the synagogue.

The Anti-Defamation League described the massacre as likely the worst instance of anti-Semitic violence ever in the history of the United States.

The gunman, who screamed that "All Jews must die" as he started shooting people in the synagogue, has been detained and charged with 29 counts based on violating hate crime laws.
