The U.S. Supreme Court is deliberating a case that could sharply limit local governments’ ability to seize private property, and it may curtail corporate fines as well.

The case is called Timbs vs. Indiana, and the High Court recently heard oral arguments related to how Indiana prosecutors punished a man who got hooked on opioids.
