Steven Sund was named the new U.S. Capitol Police chief on Friday, according to Roll Call.
Sund, the former assistant chief, had been serving as acting chief since May 31. He will replace Matthew Verderosa, retired.
Roll Call noted the department provides law enforcement for the Capitol and members of Congress.
In naming Sund chief, the Capitol Police Board cited his “operational knowledge of the department and experience serving as assistant chief."
“I am deeply humbled and honored by the confidence the Capitol Police Board has placed in me to lead our organization,” Sund said. “It is a privilege to serve the congressional community and the department. I look forward to our department’s continued success in our mission to protect and serve the Congress, the U.S. Capitol, and the American people.”
