A Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President Mike Pence's detail was arrested and subsequently suspended from duty after meeting with a prostitute in a Maryland hotel, CNN reported.
CNN, citing "multiple law enforcement sources," said a hotel manager called police after becoming suspicious about activities in one of the hotel rooms. The arrest was not part of sting operation.
Police arrested the agent after seeing him leave the hotel. He was charged with solicitation and self-reported his arrest to the agency.
A Secret Service spokesperson acknowledged "an alleged incident, and said the employee was placed on administrative leave after surrendering his weapon and official gear. His security clearance and access to Secret Service facilities was suspended.
"We are exploring the full range of disciplinary actions," the spokesperson told CNN.
The incident took place while the agent was off duty.
