Rep. Sean Duffy, who is resigning his congressional seat for family reasons, said Tuesday he believes a Republican will be picked in the special election to replace him.
"This is a Republican-leaning seat," the Wisconsin Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."
"Democrats have a lot more money than Republicans. Small-dollar donors in the Democratic Party are a lot more aggressive than the Republican side. I think it could be challenging."
However, he said he believes that the district's love for President Donald Trump, along with the conservative policies and the economy, will lead to a Republican being elected to replace him.
Duffy, who appeared on the program with his wife and Fox News contributor Rachael Campos-Duffy, explained that he's leaving his congressional seat because of health complications with the couple's unborn child.
"Not long ago we found out that our little baby has a couple of holes in the heart," said Duffy about the child, which will be the couple's ninth. "So after she is born, whether it's two to six months after life, she is going to need open-heart surgery. They have to crack her open and fix the heart. They walked us through this yesterday."
Duffy said he made the announcement about leaving Congress as he and his wife were meeting with their child's heart doctor about what to expect.
His wife added that her husband's schedule would have made it "really rough" with nine children, and "at some point, you have just got to put your family first. I feel really proud of what Sean has done in eight and a half years in Congress."
