Ryan Likens NFL Replacement Refs to Obama Budget Officials

By    |   Tuesday, 25 September 2012 03:22 PM EDT

The National Football League’s replacement referees are missing the mark about as much as Obama administration officials, Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan said on Tuesday.

"You guys watch that Packer game last night?" the Wisconsin congressman and Green Bay Packer fan asked at the start of a town hall meeting in Ohio. "I mean, give me a break. It is time to get the real refs, and it reminds me of President Obama and the economy: If you can't get it right, it's time to get out."

"I half think these refs work part time for the Obama administration in the Budget Office," Ryan said.

Ryan was referencing a controversial touchdown at the end of the Packers game against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Seattle was given a touchdown on a Hail Mary pass in the final seconds of the game, despite videos showing the pass apparently intercepted by a Green Bay player.

The call was made by one of the NFL's replacement referees; the normal officiating crews have been locked out by football owners as part of a labor dispute.
