Kremlin Says Looming Absence of Nuclear Arms Limits Would Be Very Bad for Global Security

Tuesday, 03 February 2026 08:56 AM EST

The Kremlin said on Tuesday that abandoning limits on the strategic nuclear arsenals of Russia and the United States would be very bad for global security.

The New START nuclear treaty between the two countries expires on Thursday. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow's proposal to keep observing the treaty's limits on missiles, launchers, and warheads for another year was still on the table, but the U.S. had yet to respond to it.
