Amid Vladimir Putin's decree to partially mobilize Russia for its ongoing war in Ukraine, videos are circulating on social media demonstrating chaos in the wake of the president's decision.
On Wednesday, Putin proclaimed the recruitment of current military reserves and former personnel with professional backgrounds, swelling the country's force to some 300,000 troops, according to The Associated Press.
"I reiterate, we are talking about partial mobilization, that is, only citizens who are currently in the reserve will be subject to conscription, and above all, those who served in the armed forces have a certain military specialty and relevant experience," Putin said in a televised address.
"Conscripts will obligatorily go through additional military training based on the experience of the special military operation before departing to the units," he added.
That address sparked nationwide protests and led to an exodus of young Russians fleeing the county. Now, videos are circulating on social media showing the apparent extent of the chaos.
For example, several sources have reported that the military is enlisting students at Buryat State University in Siberia. A complete mobilization point is said to be established while the officers "take students straight from classes," Newsweek reported.
"The cops are on my campus, 10-15 people," wrote a student in a chat room. One day later, a clip emerged showing authorities at the university with military vehicles outside the building.
Another video with the heading "mobilized in the plane" features several Russian officers on board an airplane while chaos ensues with several passengers. Newsweek noted that judging by the airline, it also likely comes from around the Siberian region.
So far, neither video has received independent verification.
