Russia and the United States should resume diplomatic discussions with defense officials and foreign policy leaders, according to Russian ambassador Anatoly Antonov.
"The time has come to resume joint meetings of Russia and the United States' foreign and defense ministers in a 'two plus two' format," Antonov said
The U.S. uses that format with Japan and other allies, which includes the secretary of defense, the secretary of state, and their counterparts from the other countries, Reuters reported.
Antonov also suggested that security and foreign intelligence from Russia should meet with the U.S.'s FBI and CIA, the Reuters report said.
"Working cooperation" between the U.S. and Russia security councils could help in the fight against terrorism and cyber threats, Antonov added in the interview.
Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Antonov to the job on Aug. 21.
