Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh on Tuesday predicted that attempts by Democrats to use Donald Trump's words against him will fail because Trump is essentially an Internet troll, and nothing ever said online ever hurts trolls.
Internet trolls typically spark online arguments, and Trump is one, Limbaugh said, "with all of his tweeting. Trump is one of those guys."
Trump, he said, "has brought the Internet troll to the campaign."
While there is a negative connotation to Internet trolls, they are also becoming mainstream, Limbaugh said.
"This kind of speech pattern, the way people speak, this is common on the Internet," he said. "This is the kind of stuff that people say every day, everywhere, on the Internet multiple times a day, and nothing happens to them. They don’t get shut down. They don’t get shouted down."
Trump survives criticism because he's a real guy, and "this is how real guys talk," Limbaugh said. "How about this: American politics is determined by trolls on the Internet today. It may be is not determined, but Internet trolls have a lot of say about what people are thought of."
