Limbaugh: Biden Would Give Hillary a 'Real Challenge'

Vice President Joe Biden would give Hillary Clinton a "real challenge" in the Democratic race for president if he decides to throw his hat into the ring, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said Thursday.

During the opening segment of his show, Limbaugh fired a warning shot to the Clinton campaign and said it needs to watch out for the former longtime senator who became vice president in 2009.

"The real challenge Hillary would face is if Biden decides to get in the race," Limbaugh said. "I mean, they can handle Bernie Sanders, because at the end of the day, behind the scenes, everybody is pretty confident that the Democrat Party is not going to let Bernie Sanders be the nominee. But Biden, that's a different matter."

Sanders, a Vermont senator since 2007 and a member of the House for 16 years before that, is running on a far-left agenda that appears to be working. He has made up ground on Clinton in both New Hampshire and Iowa, according to polls.

Sanders' surge has the Clinton campaign "worried," but Limbaugh thinks it can weather the Sanders storm and stay ahead.

Biden, on the other hand, could pose a different type of challenge, he said.

"If Biden gets in this race, then everything changes for her, because with Bernie Sanders out there ... You know, she can run to the right of somebody like Bernie Sanders," Limbaugh said.

The Daily Caller posted audio of Limbaugh's remarks:

Limbaugh then talked about how Biden was encouraged by his son, Beau, who died in May at age 46, to mount another run at the White House. He ran unsuccessfully in 1988 and 2008.

"I want you to envision and imagine how the Democrats would exploit what has been 'revealed' to us: The Beau Biden deathbed plea or request that his father run for the presidency for him," Limbaugh said. "Of course, it will all be for Beau. It will be to live the life that Beau would have lived had Beau lived. Biden can say, 'I was going to get out of politics. I've done it all. I've seen it all. But my son told me to go for it, and my son's life was tragically cut short. But I can live that life for my son.'"

Biden has been noncommittal about running for president this time around, but there is a growing movement behind the scenes that is picking up steam. And Biden, reports USA Today, is expected to announce his decision on whether he's running in August.
