Rudy Giuliani is ready to help President Donald Trump win reelection by shifting his role as a nationally known attack dog from the administration to the campaign, even while some people close to the president say the former New York City mayor's attempts often meet with mixed results.

“We’ll see where they have holes and where they need help,” Giuliani, the president's personal attorney, told Politico. “I’m available to do a lot of it.”

He said he plans to meet with Trump and the campaign in upcoming weeks to discuss his new role, and expects that part of that will include helping to make policy and political connections.

“I imagine not all of Rudy’s ideas are brilliant ones, but the vast majority are and I’ll take the good with the bad,” Trump adviser Michael Caputo, who met with the president last month, commented.

Giuliani was involved in Trump's first campaign — a role that included speaking at the Republican National Convention to mixed reviews — and now that he's the president's attorney, he speaks with him frequently.

Already, Giuliani has attacked Trump rivals Joe Biden and Bill de Blasio, and he's being eyed to fill the same role he played during the 2016 campaign, including introducing Trump at rallies and making media appearances.

A Trump campaign adviser said having Giuliani on board is an advantage, despite his faults.

"There are frequently messages that the president absolutely needs and wants to get out and he serves that role ably and cheerfully,” the source told Politico. "That’s the best way to characterize him. If there wasn’t a Rudy Giuliani, we’d have to invent one.”
