President Donald Trump may wait until mid- to late July to decide if he will agree to be interviewed by special counsel Robert Mueller, his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani said Wednesday.

"I'm advising him to stay put, to hold our horses a little," Giuliani told The Washington Post in an interview Wednesday, conducted about an hour after the former New York City mayor said he spoke with Trump. "I doubt August, and I doubt too far into July. But I do think things have changed."

He added he would "like" a response from Trump "over to them by July 4th, but that internal matters at the Justice Department may cause him to advise the president to wait.

"The president has the same concerns that I have about all of this," Giuliani told the newspaper. "At this point, he doesn't want a decision [on an interview] to be made quickly, but he wants to get [the investigation] over with."

Giuliani has said in the past he cannot "foresee any circumstances" in which he would allow Trump to be interviewed by Mueller.

"Do I look crazy?" he told Fox News on Tuesday night. "So far, you know, I still have all my senses, and I'm a heck of a lawyer. And I get drummed out of the profession if I did. I mean, the reality is, you don’t put your client in a kangaroo court."

Giuliani added to the Post that Trump's legal team does not know if Mueller will issue a subpoena if discussions break down in the coming weeks.

"They have an argument for it and against it," Giuliani said. "It could blow up in their face, and they'd have to just file a report. At this point, they're not pressing us."
