Democrats on the debate stage didn't have answers to "real problems" like the border crisis — in English or in Spanish — Sen. Marco Rubio said Thursday morning.
"These guys tell you they want to decriminalize crossing border," the Florida Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "They are fighting us on providing more money to take care of people already here. They don't want to do anything about laws luring people here, but they don't have any answers about how to fix it."
He added that he found it ironic that even though the debate was in Miami, no questions were asked about Latin America, Cuba, Venezuela, or Nicaragua.
"They tell us they honestly don't care or are not comfortable talking about those issues," Rubio said."I thought that was enlightening."
Meanwhile, the only bill that's been passed on emergency border spending would be the version passed by the Senate, said Rubio.
"This is pretty elementary," he said. "In order to make a bill pass, you have to pass identical (bills) in the House and Senate," said Rubio. "We have people in the House, a few in the Senate, a few on the stage last night, who are basically criticizing the administration for not treating the people and children who are being held appropriately, but at the same time, they're saying 'oh, by the way, we will not give you any more money to treat you better.' It is an incredibly hypocritical position to take."
He added that he wishes Congress would address the conditions in the Northern Triangle in Central America, which are driving immigration.
"It's easy to say throw more money at it," said Rubio. "Those countries have capacity problems what to do with the money."
