Two candidates with the same name are vying for the same congressional seat in California, The Hill is reporting.

Republican Raul Ruiz said on Thursday he was entering the race against Democratic incumbent Raul Ruiz for the seat representing California's 36th Congressional District.

The GOP's Ruiz said on his website that he entered the race because he "sees the big government policies that AOC [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez], Congressman Ruiz and the rest of the liberal partisans in Congress are pushing and knows that they are threatening what makes the country great."

The Democrat Ruiz was first elected to Congress in 2012.
