Alabama Republican Senate hopeful Roy Moore has rarely made campaign appearances since sexual misconduct allegations were lodged against him last month, according to a report in The Montgomery Advertiser.

The election for the junior senate seat is being held Dec. 12, and Moore's last public appearance was a rally in Fairhope on Dec. 6.

He has made less than 10 public appearances in the last month – the first sexual misconduct accusations were lodged in early November – with most occurring at religious gatherings or churches.

"I think it’s extremely odd that for the better part of that campaign, we have seen his spokespeople, his campaign manager and his surrogates," Angi Horn Stalnaker, a Republican consultant, told the paper.

Moore has denied the claims, but many lawmakers have called on him to step away from the race. President Donald Trump, though, has backed the Republican and intends to release a robocall for him on Monday.

Ben DuPre, a campaign spokesman, said Moore was "campaigning hard," when asked last Thursday why the former Alabama Chief Justice was absent from a press conference.

Moore is set to make an appearance Monday night in Dale County in the Wiregrass with Steve Bannon and Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, in tow.
