Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, admitted in a new interview that he maintains a secret Twitter account, which he marked as private Sunday after its details were revealed.
Romney told The Atlantic about the account, which he said follows 668 people, including journalists. He uses it to anonymously stay in touch with the conversation around politics. Slate's Ashley Feinberg then uncovered an account underthe name Pierre Delecto, which appeared to match Romney's description.
McKay Coppins of The Atlantic got back in touch with Romney Sunday to ask about the revelation, to which he replied, "C'est moi" — or "it's me" in French.
Romney told The Atlantic his once-secret account follows journalists, late-night comedians, athletes, and others. He does not follow President Donald Trump, however.
"He tweets so much," Romney said of Trump.
Romney, a former Massachusetts governor and the 2012 Republican presidential candidate, was a contender to serve as secretary of state but was passed over during Trump's transition period. He later announced his candidacy for the Senate and won in 2018. He and Trump have traded barbs over the last several months.
