Now that the Cleveland Indians are dumping their controversial Chief Wahoo logo, will the Washington Redskins follow suit and change the team name many Native Americans consider racist?

Don't bet on it.

Redskins owner Dan Snyder "continues to believe in the name and I don't see him changing that perspective," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday to Mike Golic and Trey Wingo on ESPN Radio.

Goodell said Snyder has long consulted with Native Americans to get their take on the controversy.

"I think the interesting thing is that Dan Snyder has really worked in the Native American community to understand better their perspective," Goodell said.

"And I think it's reflected mostly in a Washington Post poll that came out in the last year that said nine out of 10 Native Americans do not take that in a negative fashion, the Redskins' logo or the Redskins' name, and they support it . . . The Redskins have done a tremendous amount of work here."

On Monday, it was revealed the Cleveland Indians will stop using the Chief Wahoo logo on their uniforms beginning next year.

Commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred told The New York Times "the logo is no longer appropriate for on-field use in Major League Baseball."

It's likely the campaign to compel the Redskins to rebrand will continue.

Ray Halbritter, a member of the Oneida Nation who heads the "Change the Mascot" campaign, said:

"The Cleveland baseball team has rightly recognized that Native Americans do not deserve to be denigrated as cartoon mascots . . . Cleveland's decision should finally compel the Washington football team to make the same honorable decision.

"For too long, people of color have been stereotyped with these kinds of hurtful symbols — and no symbol is more hurtful than the football team in the nation's capital using a dictionary-defined racial slur as its team name."
