People around the world are stepping up with unique fundraising campaigns to show their support for the medical personnel in Italy battling the COVID-19 disease that has ravaged the nation’s healthcare system and has led to a staggering 12,430 deaths there as of Wednesday.
Rocco B. Commisso, chairman and CEO of the cable and broadband giant Mediacom, and his ACF Fiorentina football club have launched the Forza E Cuore campaign on GoFundMe.
Forzo E Cuore means “strength and heart” in English.
The campaign has already raised nearly 750,000 euros, or about $820,000. This includes a 250,000 euro donation from Commisso and the Viola family.
Funds raised will go to the Careggi Foundation and the Santa Maria Nuova Onlus Foundation. Their mission is to provide financial support to the primary hospitals engaged in the dramatic battle in recent weeks to save lives in the city of Florence.
“I want to say a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff that are currently fighting the toughest of battles in Tuscany,” Commisso said.
Commisso, a Forbes billionaire who owns the New York Cosmos soccer team as well as the Florence-based ACF Fiorentina football club, has strong ties to Italy.
“I’d urge anyone from America, any of your readers, anyone who has been to Italy, anyone who has been to the city of Florence, to please help out in whatever way you can, small or large, and make a contribution to the Forza E. Curore fund-raiser on GoFundMe,” he said.
