House to Hit Justice Department on Mueller Document Demand

House to Hit Justice Department on Mueller Document Demand

Wednesday, 27 June 2018 01:30 PM EDT

The House is expected to turn up the heat on the Russia investigation by voting Thursday on a measure to slam the Justice Department for withholding sensitive documents connected to special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe.

Politico reports that while the resolution is not enforceable, the vote would signal for the first time the House goes on record to demand such documents.

The resolution accuses the DOJ of "non-compliance" with House subpoenas, according to Politico. They include several issued by the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees.

Democrats oppose the measure as a partisan ploy to undermine the investigation into the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russia.

Rep. Mark Meadows, a North Carolina Republican, said that if the Justice Department fails to comply with the resolution, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein should be held in contempt of Congress.
