The United Nations Human Rights Council plans to appoint Hilal Elver, a Turkish lawyer and wife of anti-American and anti-Israel campaigner Richard Falk, to its staff, according to Hillel Neuer, executive director of
UN Watch.
Falk, who is set to leave the Human Rights Council, has dedicated himself to hounding Israel as the agency's special rapporteur on Palestinian human rights. He is separately known for his 9/11 conspiracy theories.
Elver now becomes the U.N. special rapporteur on the right to food.
She is Falk's longtime partner and professional collaborator. The two, who have been married for 18 years, own a luxury Santa Barbara, Calif., home near the Pacific Ocean. Elver is also a research professor at the University of California specializing in climate change, according to
Al Jazeera.
Her new position is part-time and not salaried but includes various perks provided by the U.N.
Elver's anti-American and anti-Israel pronouncements tend to be more circumspect than her husband's, according to UN Watch. Elver is on record as saying the United States looks for excuses to unleash its "war power" to "invade countries."
She is said to believe that the U.S. media and entertainment are hostile toward Islam.
Like her husband, Elver has accused Israel of "genocide" and compared Israelis to "Nazis."
She has charged Israel with "water apartheid" and implied that Israeli-Palestinian water
cooperation is bad for Palestinian development.
