Third of Americans Say They Expect Tax Refund

Forty-one percent of Americans say they have already filed their income taxes, according to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports.

Highlights from the poll, released Thursday:

  • 41% say they now expect to file by the April 15 deadline.
  • 6% say they expect to file for an extension.
  • 11% say they are uncertain what they will do.
  • 33% say they anticipate getting a refund.
  • 24% say they will owe the government money.
  • 25% say they expect to break even.
  • 18% say they are not sure.
  • 36% of women and 30% of men say they expect to receive an IRS refund.

They poll, conducted March 6-8, surveyed 1,050 people. It has a margin of error of plus/minus 3 percentage points.
