President Donald Trump on Saturday slammed a woman who came forward as the author of a "Jane Doe" letter detailing allegations of sexual misconduct against now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, claiming that she has now admitted her story was false.

"A vicious accuser of Justice Kavanaugh has just admitted that she was lying, her story was totally made up, or FAKE!" the president tweeted. "Can you imagine if he didn’t become a Justice of the Supreme Court because of her disgusting False Statements. What about the others? Where are the Dems on this?"

Trump's tweet seemingly refers to Judy Munro-Leighton, a woman who said she was the author of an anonymous letter alleging that Kavanaugh and a friend had raped her. But after being interviewed by Senate investigators, she recanted, USA Today reported.

In a letter sent Friday, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley referred Munro-Leighton to the Justice Department and FBI for investigation.

"Regarding the false sexual-assault allegation she made via her email to the Committee, she said: 'I was angry, and I sent it out,'" Grassley wrote in his letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Christopher Wray. "When asked by Committee investigators whether she had ever met Judge Kavanaugh, she said: 'Oh Lord, no.'"

"Today, Chairman @ChuckGrassley referred Judy Munro-Leighton to @TheJusticeDept for investigation for making materially false statements to the Committee during the course of its investigation," read a tweet posted to the official Senate Judiciary account Friday.

Claims of sexual misconduct threatened to derail Kavanaugh's confirmation in September, though he was ultimately confirmed in the Senate 50-48 after a contentious series of hearings that included testimony from accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.

Kavanaugh has denied any wrongdoing.
