Poll: Harris Leads Trump by 38 Points Among Asian Americans

By    |   Tuesday, 24 September 2024 04:15 PM EDT

Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris leads Republican Donald Trump by 38 points among Asian American voters, according to a new Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) poll released Tuesday.

Harris leads Trump 66% to 28% among Asian American voters, with 6% saying they're undecided or would vote for someone else, according to the survey.

It's the first APIAVote poll since Harris became the Democrat nominee in July. A similar survey conducted in the spring found President Joe Biden with a 15-point lead over Trump among Asian American voters, 46% to 31%.

"These results reinforce what we've been hearing and seeing from the Asian American community since July: they are re-energized and poised to once again play a decisive role in the election," Christine Chen, co-founder and executive director of APIAVote said in the analysis. "It's also clear that the major parties and campaigns are no longer overlooking or taking AAPI voters for granted, but instead making concerted efforts to reach out and engage them on the issues that matter most to them."

Harris also enjoyed a substantial bump in favorability ratings since the April-May survey, with 62% saying they have a favorable opinion of her. That's an improvement of 18 points from the spring, when 44% said they had a favorable opinion of the sitting vice president, according to the poll.

Trump has a 28% favorability rating among Asian American voters, a drop from the 34% who had a favorable opinion of him in the spring, according to the poll.

Asian American voters have grown by 15% since the 2020 election, according to APIAVote.

The poll was conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago from Sept. 3-9. The overall margin of error is 4.7%.
