Fifty-six percent of voters say allegations that former Vice President Joe Biden inappropriately touched several women should not disqualify him from running for president, a new Hill-HarrisX poll reveals.

Twenty-three percent said Biden’s alleged conduct should be viewed as disqualifying. Twenty-one were uncertain.

Here’s how the poll breaks down:

  • 49% of Republican voters said the allegations should not prevent him from running, compared to 32% who said he should not run because of the claims.  19% were unsure.
  • 62% of Democrats say the women’s claims should not stop him from entering the race, while 18% say his conduct should be viewed as disqualifying. 20% were uncertain.
  • 55% of independent voters said the allegations should not prevent him from running, compared to 21% who said the accusations should stop him from entering the race. 24% were uncertain.
  • 54% of all women surveyed said the women’s claims should not stop him from running, compared 57% of men, who agreed.

The poll, conducted Thursday and Friday, surveyed 1,004 registered voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
