Quinnipiac Poll: 51 Percent of Biden Supporters Might Switch

By    |   Wednesday, 13 September 2023 05:27 PM EDT

Fifty-one percent of U.S. voters who plan to vote for President Joe Biden said they might change their candidate choice, depending on what happens leading up to the Democratic primary, according to a Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday.

Comparatively, 46% say they firmly support Biden no matter what.

"Clearly, loyalty to the two leading candidates in the primaries for president is not written in stone. Roughly one-third of Trump's voters might walk away from him and roughly half from Biden," said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.

The poll also found:

  • 68% of Republican voters say they are firmly set on former President Donald Trump no matter what happens leading up to the Republican primary, while 29% say they might change their candidate choice.
  • In a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup between Biden and Trump, 47% of registered voters said they support Biden and 46% said Trump.
  • 50% of voters think the president was involved in Hunter Biden's business dealings with Ukraine and China while Joe Biden was vice president, while 40 percent think he was not involved.
  • When asked who would do a better job responding to a national crisis, 51% of registered voters said Trump, while 44 percent said Biden.

Quinnipiac surveyed 1,910 adults nationwide. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 2.2 percentage points.
