A former Playboy Playmate clutching her seven-year-old son leaped from the penthouse window of a posh boutique hotel in Midtown Manhattan Friday morning.
Stephanie Adams and her son, Vincent, were killed instantly after plunging 25 stories and hitting the second-floor landing of a courtyard at the Gotham Hotel on East 46th Street, shortly before 8:30 a.m.
Adams, 46, who first appeared as a Playboy centerfold in 1992, was in the middle of a divorce from her husband, Dr. Charles Nicolai, owner of Wall Street Chiropractic & Wellness, according to court documents obtained by the New York Daily News.
Adams had a history of domestic violence with Nikolai, sources told ABC News. The boy was present during disputes between the parents, a law enforcement official told ABC.
No suicide note was found, according to the News.
Two months ago, Adams brought up the subject of domestic abuse in a Twitter post, stating:
"The only person who should ever be ashamed in a domestic abuse incident is the abuser. Stand tall and stay strong. Find the right support and always maintain your safety. Get the help you and your child need now to no longer be a victim."
