Venture capitalist Peter Thiel has donated $250,00 to President Donald Trump’s joint fundraising committee, CNBC reports.
According to a filing with the Federal Election Commission, Thiel donated the money to the Trump Victory Committee in July. Thiel previously donated $1.25 million to Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, but this was the first time the Pay-Pal founder donated to the organization since then.
The committee managed to raise more than $2 million between July and late September, including donations from Trump’s longtime attorney Marc Kasowitz and United States Steel Corp., and in total, Trump raised over $18 million through his joint fundraising committees and his campaign committee in the third quarter.
CNBC asked the Trump campaign and Thiel’s representatives for comment, but did not receive a response.
Thiel defended Trump in a recent interview with Dave Rubin, saying, "I think Trump's instincts continue to be, you know, much less in this super power confrontation. If you look at where this opposition to President Trump comes from, the sort of most deranged part of it, is from the neoconservative Republicans.”
