Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., on Tuesday defended Melania Trump after the first lady was booed at a youth anti-opioid drug event in Baltimore, calling it "absolutely disgraceful" and asking, "Has the left no sense of decency?"
"Absolutely disgraceful that @FLOTUS was repeatedly booed at Youth Opioid Summit in Baltimore," King, 75, who is retiring next year after 14 terms in the House, said on Twitter.
"If any issue should be free from abusive, rude behavior, it should be protecting kids from opioids.
"Has the left no sense of decency?!?"
Trump was booed and cheered by middle and high school students after she was introduced at the Baltimore Youth Summit on Opioid Awareness at University of Maryland Baltimore County.
The boos lasted for about a minute, WJZ13-TV in Baltimore reports, but the students also talked over her during her speech, in which she encouraged them to avoid drug abuse.
"Thank you to all of the students who are here," Trump said. "I am so proud of you for the bravery it takes to share that you have been strongly affected by the opioid epidemic in some way."
