The shootings attacks in Copenhagen over the weekend may be tied to the Paris terror incidents last month, Rep. Peter King told CNN Tuesday.
The similarities make it appear that at a minimum the Copenhagen events were inspired by the Paris attacks, King said on CNN's
"The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."
The original Paris attacks targeted cartoonists at the satirical magazine "Charlie Hebdo," and a later attack, by a different gunman, focused on a kosher supermarket. In Copenhagen, the same gunman targeted a free-speech forum where a cartoonist was speaking followed hours later by an attack at a synagogue.
"That's no coincidence," King said. "It's Jews that go to Jewish delis, it's Jews that go to synagogues."
The former House Homeland Security Committee chairman said he has no reason to doubt a French newspaper's reporting that the Paris operation was a joint effort between the Islamic State (ISIS) and al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP.)
"They have an ultimate enemy, and that's Jews, whether it's the kosher deli or the synagogue, they are motivated by extreme hatred of Jews and Christians as we've seen in Egypt," King said.
