House Speaker Paul Ryan plans to talk about the Republican agenda with the party's presidential front-runner Donald Trump,
The Hill reports.
The speaker's staff has been in communication with Trump's staff, according to Ryan's office, but Ryan and Trump have yet to talk one-on-one.
"We expect the speaker to be in touch with all the remaining candidates soon to discuss our efforts to build a bold conservative policy agenda for 2017," said Ryan spokesman Brendan Buck.
Trump's campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks would not confirm the talks, telling The Hill, "we don't comment on private conversations."
As Republicans are split on whether they will back Trump as the party's nominee, Ryan has said he will support whoever wins the nod. But he has twice spoken out against Trump, saying in December that his plan for a moratorium on Muslim immigration was not conservatism. Ryan this week spoke out against what he believed to be Trump not being forceful enough in disavowing praise from former Klansman David Duke.
Trump said
in a press conference on the night of Super Tuesday he would get along with Ryan, but added, "if I don't, he's going to have to pay a big price."
